The Oscars are coming—just around the corner is the biggest event in the film industry. I took a look at this year’s nominations, and while there are some big Hollywood productions, many of them are simply unwatchable considering their content (more movie reviews coming soon).
That said, I always enjoy exploring the short films and animated categories.
Not all of them are publicly available in full, but I watched all the trailers, and one animation really stood out to me: Forevergreen.
I was intrigued by this beautifully made animation about a bear and a tree. It sounds simple—but as a filmmaker, I truly love animation. It’s such a powerful medium for symbolism and for telling deeply compelling stories that resonate with audiences of all ages.
I looked up Forevergreen and found that the full version is actually available on YouTube (linked above). I had to watch it—and I was completely captivated.
It’s a story of love and sacrifice, youth and patience. Without a single word spoken, we follow the journey and transformation of the main character. Relationships and desires are expressed purely through body language.
Watch until very end, I think it will be even bigger surprise!
