Based on a novel by José María Sánchez-Silva, the story begins with a baby found on the steps of a monastery, inhabited by twelve monks. They take the child in, though they initially struggle to care for him properly and try to find a suitable family to adopt him. When that doesn’t work out, they decide to keep him.
Marcelino grows up in the monastery, playing and causing plenty of mischief among the monks—each of whom he gives a nickname, thanks to his vivid, childlike imagination.
He is pure of heart, though he still finds himself in trouble from time to time. When Brother “Cookie,” who takes special care of him, warns him not to go upstairs because a “man” will take him away, Marcelino becomes curious. Like any child told not to do something, he feels the urge to discover what is hidden there.
Is there really a bad man upstairs?
Will Marcelino be taken away?
The Miracle of Marcelino is a joyful story for the whole family—a beautiful example of simple, childlike faith. I was deeply moved by its simplicity, yet powerful message—one that the whole world should hear:
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:3
Are you like a child?
